Door step sellers stickers

19th April 2008

The police have supplied the Parish Council with stickers to deter unwanted callers, and an example is in the Parish Council notice board at the top of The Stockwell. Please contact the clerk if you would like one to display.

Dog fouling

18th April 2008
There have been two articles in recent issues of the Link explaining both the health risks from dog faeces and the possibility of an £80 instant fine, rising to £1,000 if a case goes to court. Unfortunately this problem seems to be increasing, both in the centre of the village, and particularly on Wysall Lane. Recent incidents have included fouling in the children’s playground and “poo bags” being found hanging from branches on the sports field. Bags may be put in any of the litter bins in the village, providing they are tied closed.

The Parish Council is arranging for additional multi-purpose bins to be put on Wysall Lane, additional “No fouling” signs, and visits from street wardens to target this problem. However it is the responsibility of dog owners to clean up. Wysall Lane is becoming an unattractive walking route, and with the warmer weather on its way it is essential that a pleasant country walk is not spoiled by stepping in something unpleasant and hazardous. Please supervise your dog, and just because you are on a country road this does not mean you can avoid “scooping the poop”!

Use of playing field

21st February 2008

The Playing Field on Burton Lane is owned by Wymeswold Parochial Charities and rented by the Parish Council for the use of villagers. It is used by the village cricket and football teams (who each pay rental fees) and is available at all times to parishioners for informal games, exercise and dog walking.

The Parish Council is aware that the field is increasingly being used for golf practice, and has concerns over safety and other issues associated with this.

The cricket square was recently damaged with large divots being taken out of the playing surface. However, and more importantly, there are safety issues with golf balls being driven over the length of the field, particularly if young children are playing or parishioners are walking dogs.

It is common for golf practice to be prohibited on public playing fields, but the Parish Council does not wish to penalise responsible users or families practicing short chipping shots.

The Parish Council would like to know your views over whether or not golf practice should be prohibited on the Playing Field. Please either speak to one of the councillors, or telephone or email the clerk, Miranda Noble (01509 881146 or mnwymeswoldpc@noblecustom.co.uk).

Wymeswold Post Office Closure

1st February 2008
The Post Office Service has published its Area Plan Decision Booklet which includes the plans for future Post Office services in the village. Below is an extract from this booklet:

Respondents’ main concerns were the lack of a direct bus route to East Leake and Keyworth, and the distance to other Post Office branches. Specific comments were made about the impact on vulnerable customer groups and the community as a whole. Respondents also detailed development projects in the locality.

Having regard to all comments received during the local public consultation and all other relevant factors, Post Office Limited has decided to proceed with the closure of this branch and replacement with an Outreach service.

Post Office Limited has explored various options in relation to the provision of an Outreach, and has decided to introduce a Hosted service which will be available for 14 hours a week from the Three Crowns Public House. Opening hours will be as follows:

Monday 9.0 0-12.30
Friday 9.00-16.00
Saturday 9.00-12.30

Community Orchard

The trees which have been sponsored by Wymeswold parishioners were planted by groups of volunteers in rather adverse weather in two sessions during November and December. Only two trees are still awaiting delivery. In January around 400 narcissi were planted which were kindly donated by John Morris of 6 Acres Nursery.
